Rule-Breaking Monday – Too Much Pink!

I've long been wanting to try out these pink tights with my six-strap shoes. I happened to have this skirt, which is a similar pink but darker and a camisole that was a similar pink but lighter. So I had no choice but to wear all three together. As it turns out, I love how the tights work with the shoes. But I'm not crazy over the skirt.

The pink tights never fail to get comments at work. There was a period of time during which I never failed to embarrass myself any time I was in the presence of a certain person who is very high up in our organization. Once, he saw me in these tights. While I actually did manage to not embarrass myself this time, he took care of that for me by announcing, “Boy, those are some PINK legs!” Yes they are. Thank you for noticing. ;)

How fortunate that I also just recently made a couple of pink hair flowers!  Nothing fancy; just some leftover silk flowers from the craft store with an alligator clip hot glued to the back and a rhinestone glued in the center.

Rule-Breaking Monday: Animal Print at Work

I normally am not into animal print. But when I saw several pieces at New York & Co. in black, white and gray, I felt pretty fuzzy inside because they reminded me of my two favorite kitties, Perseus and Prometheus. I really like that this print is a bit abstract, so I don’t feel so much like I’m trying to imitate any one particular animal. It has a bit of leopard and a bit of tiger and maybe even a bit of duck-billed platypus... Okay, forgive the bad humor: it's Monday, and it's early!!

I would like to say that I wore minimal accessories today for some profound reason, such as to let the print shine… But truthfully I was just running late and didn’t want to mix up my priorities again so soon (as I did in this post). So I opted for just these simple bracelets and for getting to work on time.

Between the animalesque print, the super-flattering fit of this top and the strappy (and tall) heels, I feel a bit on the sexy side for work. But I guess that’s what rule breaking is all about!

Please excuse the blur… Today was an off day for photography. We went out shooting photos of the car yesterday and I forgot to return the camera to my studio settings afterward. So we’ll call this a “soft focus” and pretend like it’s a good thing.  :)

A Close-Up of Today's Shoes

I ordered these colorful shoes from Newport News (along with a purple pair) and found that they were just too colorful for my taste in footwear. The platform and the heel part were already black, so I hoped that adding some black trim would tone the rest of the shoe down a bit. A bit of Shoe Goo came to the rescue, and I was much more satisfied with them!

Rule-Breaking Monday: Socks with Heels

I’ve always wanted a good excuse to wear these crocheted socks with a pair of Mary Janes.  They sure are making me feel pretty cute today!

Fortunately, I took the time to put this outfit together in advance: I had a terrible time forming an outfit around the sock concept, and my wonderful husband helped me figure it out over the weekend.  If I had waited until Monday morning, I would have surely been an hour late to work.

Unfortunately, I didn’t figure on the new burgundy satin backdrop making my feet so dark, so the socks didn’t photograph as well as I had hoped.   I tried adding a little fill light in the second photo that should have helped, but I pointed it more at my knees than the shoes for some strange reason.  That’s 6:40 AM on a Monday for you.

The belt is from Forever 21, with added flower clips from Claire’s.  I thought the flowers went well with the ruffled sleeves on this top from New York & Co.

Rule-Breaking Monday: Sparkling at the Office

I found this lightweight dolman-sleeve sweater from JC Penney a couple of years ago, and of course the sparkle was irresistible to me.  The first time I wore it to work, another woman in my office was very excited.  She said she also had some things with metallic threads but was afraid they would be too fancy for the office.  I said “Psh” and she started to wear her sparkly things, too.  Made me feel like quite the little trend-setter.  ;)  Turns out another girl in my office has the same sweater but in gold, and she’s worn hers to work as well.  Now we're the sparkliest I.T. department in the world!

This flirty sheer wrap skirt is from a random mall store.  The handkerchief hem and ruffles along bottom edge make me feel even more girly than usual. 



Perhaps the six-strap heels aren't the best choice for this outfit; I think something more feminine with a bow would have been better, such as these:

I can't remember where the super-long beaded necklace came from, but I sure love it.  However, I have learned not to wear it in the kitchen.  When I lean over, it likes to swing into the food (best case) or the oven (worst case).  Sometimes fashion and home cooking just don't mix...  I guess we're eating out tonight!

Rule-Breaking Monday: Goth Girl Goes Pink

Those of us who are secure in our Gothiness are not afraid to take an occasional break from the dark colors.  For my first official participation in Rule-Breaking Monday, I will shock and horrify Goths around the world with this baby pink sweater.

Actually, I think I’ve broken three rules here (if not more).  In addition to the pink, I’m wearing a knee-length skirt.  It seems that the “rules” say the skirt should always be above or below the knee, but I happen to like knee-length sometimes.  

Best of all, my heels seriously exceed the 3” guideline for my workplace.  That’s what they get for making it a “guideline” and not a concrete part of the dress code.  ;)  Even I don’t usually wear such tall platforms to work, but I love these shoes and they go so nicely with the sweater.  While I was putting this outfit together and debating the shoe issue, my husband said, “Wear the shoes to work.”  So I did.  Making today all about breaking rules.
